Tips for Selling your House while Homeschooling: Decluttering

selling, packing homeschooling

Congratulations!!

You are selling your house or you need to move.  Which means you have to pack!

  • Maybe you or your husband got a new job and you have to move.
  • Maybe your lease was up and you found a better place to rent.
  • Maybe it was time to buy.
  • Maybe you’re a Military family getting ready to make that move again.
  • Maybe you walked into a model home and thought “this would fit our family so much better for the future!”
  • Maybe it was just time.

What ever your reason Congratulation! The next two weeks will be focused on tips to help you sell and packing your home-while homeschooling-with out losing your mind!  Well I make no promises!  I have not moved in 9 years and I had one 2 year old then, not 4 plus kids.

We know that when we homeschool there is that room or area that soon takes over your whole house.  You can see in the Ultimate guide of homeschooling rooms how different homeschool rooms look.

When we made the decision to sell our house and buy a house that was going to fit our family needs better-it was all going so fast the only thing that was going through my mind was “We are a homeschooling family of 4 kids that live here 24/7. How am I going to do this?”

Then I though gosh great I get to declutter– whether I wanted to or not.

And so, that is the first tip.  You need to declutter.  I have to admit, I am 4 weeks into having our house on the market and I still am decluttering.  Here are a few tips:

  1. Buy boxes.  I bought banker boxes first and started with books we didn’t use.  We have a lot.
  2. Focus on book selves-I decluttered the selves in our living room.  I packed 1/2 of the stuff on them right away.  And organized the other to make it look nice.
  3. Always have a garbage bag with you. Now is the time to throw away things you do not need.
  4. Have a to give away box.  Get ready for a yard sale, or just give to charity.
  5. No matter how much you declutter-it will be like the feeding of the 5000.  Keep at it!
  6. Get the kids involved!

Over the next two weeks I will give tips for:

  • Putting up the for sale sign and staging pictures
  • The outside of the house
  • Pack all the toys and getting the kids involved
  • Staging Baskets
  • The battle of Laundry
  • Homeschool area and what to do with the kids
  • The kitchen
  • Hiding the pets and kids
  • Open House

While my goal is to help homeschooling families, any mom getting ready to move will find these tips helpful.  I also welcome another tips in the comments!

I do not blog alone over these next two weeks Hopscotch!  Check out all these other great post over the next 2 weeks!

Brought to you by these lovely ladies…
